Archive Page

5 min read

Step 4 — Settings => Schema => Archive Page #

Enable schema markup on archive listing pages for blog posts, products, and other post types registered by installed plugins.

Navigation Path

WordPress Admin  →  SchemaEngine AI  →  Settings  →  Schema  →  Archive Page

📋  Why Archive Page Schema?
Archive pages are listing pages — they aggregate multiple posts in one URL. Adding schema markup to these pages helps search engines identify the type of content being listed, improving crawl understanding and enabling richer search result features for category, tag, and post-type archive URLs.

4.5.  How to Configure Archive Page Settings

4.1  How Archive Page Settings Work #

The Archive Page screen lists one section for each public post type registered on your site. Each section is independent and controls schema for that type’s archive URL specifically.

🔄  Sections auto-populate from installed plugins
Just like Post Type Mapping, the Archive Page screen automatically lists archive sections for every active plugin or theme that registers a public post type with archive support. Install WooCommerce and an E-Commerce Archive section appears. Install The Events Calendar and an Events Archive section appears. Deactivate a plugin and its archive section disappears.

Each archive section has two controls:

ControlWhat it does
Archive? toggleEnables or disables schema output for this post type’s archive page. When OFF, no schema is applied to the archive URL regardless of other settings.
Schema Type dropdownSets the schema.org type to apply to the archive page. Only visible for archive types that support schema type selection (e.g. Blog Post Archive). Selects the type of content being listed.

4.2 Blog Post Archive #

The Blog Post Archive section controls schema markup for your WordPress post listing pages — the pages that aggregate and display multiple blog posts.

ArchiveBlog Post Archive
Archive?Enables schema markup on your blog post archive and listing pages. When ON, the selected Schema Type is output on these pages.
Default: ON (enabled)
Schema TypeDropdown — choose the schema.org type to apply to the archive page. This should reflect the type of content being aggregated. Example default: Article – Blog posting.

Archive pages this applies to: #

  • The main blog page (e.g. example.com/blog or example.com/posts/)
  • Category archive pages (e.g. example.com/category/news/)
  • Tag archive pages (e.g. example.com/tag/wordpress/)
  • Author archive pages (e.g. example.com/author/john/)
  • Date-based archives (e.g. example.com/2024/01/)
FieldValidationNote
Archive? (toggle)○  OptionalNo asterisk. OFF by default for new installations. Turn ON to enable schema on archive pages.
Schema Type⚠  Warning (recommended)Only visible when Archive? is ON. Select a type — leaving it empty means no typed schema is output even when the toggle is ON.

4.3 E-Commerce Archive #

The E-Commerce Archive section appears when WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) is installed. It controls schema output for the product listing and shop pages.

Post TypeE-Commerce Archive
Product Archive?Enables schema markup on the WooCommerce Shop page and EDD product archive pages. When ON, product listing pages receive structured data markup. Default: OFF (disabled)

Archive pages this applies to:

  • WooCommerce Shop page (e.g. example.com/shop/)
  • WooCommerce product category archives (e.g. example.com/product-category/clothing/)
  • Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) product archive page
  • WooCommerce product tag archives

💡  No Schema Type dropdown for E-Commerce Archive
Unlike the Blog Post Archive, the E-Commerce Archive section does not include a Schema Type dropdown. SchemaEngine AI applies an appropriate product listing schema type automatically when this toggle is enabled. Simply turn Product Archive? ON and save.

FieldValidationNote
Product Archive? (toggle)○  OptionalNo asterisk. OFF by default. Turn ON if you want schema markup applied to your WooCommerce or EDD product listing pages.

4.4  Other Plugin Archive Sections #

Additional archive sections appear automatically based on which plugins and themes are active on your site. Each follows the same two-control pattern as the sections above: an enable toggle and (where applicable) a Schema Type dropdown.

Portfolio ArchiveJetpack Portfolio / custom theme post typesCreativeWork, VisualArtwork
Job Listing ArchiveWP Job ManagerJobPosting

ℹ️  Sections only appear when plugins are active
If a plugin is deactivated, its archive section will no longer appear on this page. If you reactivate the plugin, the archive section returns and any previously saved settings are restored.

4.5  How to Configure Archive Page Settings #

Follow these steps to enable schema markup for each archive section:

  1. Navigate to Settings › Schema › Archive Page in the WordPress admin sidebar.
  2. Locate the archive section for the post type you want to configure — for example, Blog Post Archive or E-Commerce Archive.
  3. Toggle the Archive? (or Product Archive?) switch to ON to enable schema for that archive type.
  4. If a Schema Type dropdown is visible, select the schema.org type that best represents the content aggregated on that archive page.
  5. Click Save Change in the bottom-right corner to save the settings for this archive type.
  6. Repeat for each archive section you want to enable.

💡  Recommended configuration
Enable Blog Post Archive with Schema Type set to Article – Blog posting. Enable E-Commerce Archive (Product Archive?) if you run a WooCommerce or EDD store. For other archive types, enable only those where the archive URL receives meaningful organic traffic.

💾  Save Changes
After updating the Archive Page settings, click the Save Change button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. A success notice will appear at the top of the page confirming the settings have been saved.
